You’ll explore glowing yellows using Lemon Yellow, New Gamboge, and Raw Sienna while learning how to create expressive feathers, soft color transitions, and lively contrast. We’ll finish the painting with a textured branch and a playful touch of salt.

Let’s paint a brilliant bluebird together!
In this colorful workshop, you’ll combine luminous blues, warm orange, and earthy tones to create an expressive Eastern Bluebird full of personality. We’ll work from soft watercolor washes to beautiful feather details, finishing with a natural textured branch.
You’ll learn:
- How to blend Cobalt and Ultramarine Blue
- How to add warm orange and Raw Sienna for a brilliant glow
- Wet-on-wet, dry-on-wet, and dry-brush techniques
- How to create feather texture without painting every feather
- How to paint expressive eyes and finishing details

Meet Your Instructor
Yui Kinney is a Rochester-area wildlife artist known for expressive animal and bird paintings filled with color, movement, and personality. Her teaching style is friendly, encouraging, and easy to follow. Yui received Best of Show at Fairport Canal Days in 2025 and loves helping students discover the joy of watercolor.
